About The Undrstory

Place
The Undrstory is inspired by the history of communities that have made things with their hands; particularly out under the trees, in gardens, under the sun and in the elements. I celebrate the wild places where we create, play, and commune and am drawn to perpetuate the history that craft and design has played in our evolution. 

Touchstone Objects
Touchstones are a foundational principle of my creative practice; to make objects that are daily pleasures and opportunities to pause, to remember. The tactile and textural nature of the objects I make is essential to the experience and functional use. 

Story, Community, and History of Craft
I'm inspired by craft as an expression that defines cultures united by a creative practice - the combination of skill, experience, and shared story. To me, making is not just self-expression but a compulsion to engage with an energy and mystery beyond the boundaries of self; to delight in all our senses and to play with materials in an attempt at making, as well as becoming, something beautiful.

I tend toward a minimalist aesthetic with the hopes of creating something that wears well over time and doesn't diminish with imperfection. Craft is the coupling of physical work with the channelling of ideas.

I hope you enjoy and delight in some of the objects you find here - perhaps making one a touchstone in your day-to-day or as a gift of connection to another. I hope you feel the love infused in them - and maybe a little of the sweat too.
